1850

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

The history of the Delmege Group dates back to the year 1850 when Alexander Reid a merchant from the colonial outpost of Peddler Street Galle established a startup business.

1865

The partnership was further augmented with the arrival of Forsyth thus seeing the birth of Delmege and Forsyth which acquired the agency for the global energy company Shell.

In 1865, the Delmege brothers, (Sam and Toby) upon arriving in Ceylon, formed a partnership with James Reid who succeeded Alexander, and set up offices in Colombo and Galle. It is recorded that the Delmege brothers had worked as Pilots and Collectors in the Mississippi River Steamer Service and made a fortune in running the blockade. On the termination of the American Civil War, they left America and settled in Ceylon.

1918

Delmege Forsyth established itself as a limited liability company.

2011

This was a watershed year for the company when the visionary and immensely successful businessman Dhammika Perera, Chairman of the Vallibel Group acquired the controlling interest and sole ownership of the Delmege group of companies and transformed it into a dynamic and forward-thinking company promising diversification opportunities.

2024

Today the Delmege Group headquartered within the commercial capital of Sri Lanka is a diversified conglomerate spanning products and services including Consumer, Life Style, Insurance, Medical, Manufacturing, Shipping, Leisure, and Aviation sectors, and growing exponentially every year.
