| Delmege sends DFCC to the wrong side of the ledger |

Delmege Group sent DFCC Group to the wrong side of the ledger when they routed the latter by 92 points to 65 in their Hatton National Bank sponsored MSBA semi league ‘A’ division basketball final at the Otter Aquatic Court on Friday. At the short whistle Delmege Group were well ahead with 45 points to DFCC’s 28.
Roshan Randima led Delmege Group’s scoring spree with 32 points, while Shanaka Perera 20 and Diluk Himantha 11 also made useful contributions.
For DFCC Group, R. Jayasundera was on target with 17 points while G. Meedeniya and Maxwell Saranapala with 14 points each played best for DFCC.
The tournament was sponsored for the 13th successive year by Hatton National Bank while this was Delmege Group’s second triumph for the year, having won the Ram Ratnavel Memorial knock-out earlier.
Diluk Himantha of Delmege Group was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player of the division while Roshan Randima also of Delmege Group was the Player of the Final.

The tournament was conducted by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association. The preliminary round matches were played on a robin basis.
Delmege group beat Sampath Bank in a closely contested final by 80 points to 78. At the breather the former were leading 42 points to 35. National cager & skipper of the Delmege group Roshan Randima, was the hero of the match scoring 21 points.
Delmege also has five national team representatives, namely Shanaka Perera, Prageeth Pushpakumara, Roshan Randima, Diluk Himantha and Harshadeva de Silva who performed extremely well. |

The management and staff of the Delmege Group of Companies recently held their annual awards ceremony – The Chairman’s Trophy 2007 – to reward the tremendous contributions made by the group’s employees during the past financial year. This trophy is highly coveted within the Delmege Group, and was awarded to Mr. Anton Paul this year, in recognition of the excellence in leadership provided to his team at Delmege Distributors. Held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, the awards night focused on recognising the achievements across 5 areas, believed to be critical to the success of the group, including customer service, leadership and innovation.
The winner of the prestigious honour, Mr. Anton Paul said that being awarded the Chairman’s trophy shows that the efforts of the entire team at Delmege Distributors have been recognised. He added, “The Company has worked exceptionally hard this year, and I am proud of the way we came together in our common goal of expanding the product range and quality of service we provide to our customers”.
Other features of the night included the Category Awards, presented to a select few employees in recognition of their achievements during the year. An award was presented to Mr. Soekaro Ousmand for his outstanding Performance at Delmege Forsyth Tours (Pvt.) Ltd. – the General Sales Agency for Qatar Cargo, while the award for New Business Development went to Mr. Samira Kulathunga of Delmege Interior Décor. Mr. Roshan Perera of Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Exports) was also recognized for his efforts, with the award for Innovation.
Explaining the concepts behind the awards night, the chairman for the group, Mr. F. G. N. Mendis said that the past year was highly successful, financially, for the various companies under the Delmege Forsyth banner. He continued, “As such, I truly believe that it is vital to keep our team members motivated, and to constantly reaffirm our appreciation of their hard work and dedication to the Group.”

Delmege Alcon Vision Centre Opens

Alcon the global leader in the manufacture and marketing of ophthalmic products including surgical instruments, intraocular lenses, prescription drugs and contact lens care solutions together with the Delmege Forsyth Group of Companies, opened Sri Lanka’s first state of the art Vision Center, at the Delmege head office, 101 Vinayalankara Mawatha, Colombo 10.
Delmege Forsyth has been representing Alcon for the last 12 years and are the local agents for Alcon’s surgical range. The newly opened Vision Centre is indeed a trail blazer not just in Sri Lanka but in the whole of Asia.
Speaking at the opening, Alcon’s Area Director for South Asia, Mr. Nestor Alvarez, said that the Delmege - Alcon Vision Centre was the first of its kind in Asia as it facilitates patients to purchase the cataract procedure packs after the necessary tests directly from Alcon. In addition to the other latest technologies at the Vision Centre, it also provides a Wet Lab for doctors who are passing out to practice cataract extraction techniques including Phacoimulsification.

One of the cornerstones of Alcon's success is the Company's commitment to Research and Development. Speaking at the opening of the Alcon Vision Centre, the Country Manager and Regional Manager for Bangladesh, Myanmar and the Maldives, Mr. Chanaka Goonetilleke said “in keeping with Alcon’s vision of continuously introducing new and technologically advanced products, the ReSTOR Intraocular Lens for Cataract Surgery has been introduced in Sri Lanka. Along with the introduction of this unique apodized lens which provides freedom from spectacles, patients can now look forward to a youthful vision after surgery”. He further, said “that what seemed impossible a few years back was a reality today with the recent advancement in technology.”

For the 5th consecutive year, the Delmege Group of Companies will be sponsoring the Delmege Super League Basketball Tournament. Basketball has gained wide popularity especially in the Mercantile Sector with over 35 teams from Banks and corporate entities vying for supremacy. The Delmege Super League Basketball Tournament will be conducted by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association (MSBA), a sports body which has earned the reputation of conducting the highest number of basketball tournaments within the Sri Lankan Mercantile Sector. The Delmege Super League Basketball Tournament as well as the other tournaments held by the MSBA help promote comraderie amongst players as well as build goodwill among companies and banks in the Mercantile Sector. The sport also gives school leavers yet another avenue through which they can enter the Mercantile Sector. The Delmege Group has actively participated in the sport for the past 12 years with its team featuring some of Sri Lanka’s best known names in Basketball.
This year, 36 teams from both male and female divisions will battle for The Delmege Super League Basketball Trophy. The Tournament will comprise of 76 matches commencing 19th February, 2007 and ending 30th March 2007.

The Delmege Super League basketball finals were played on Friday, the 30th of March at the Otters Basketball Court.
Sampath Bank, with its aggressive team was the first to get on the score board. However, the Delmege team soon showed their supremacy by tanking and maintaining a comfortable lead. What ensued was a heated match with both sides fighting every inch of the way. The match concluded with the victorious Delmege Team retaining the Delmege Super league Trophy for yet another year.

Delmege Muscle for Mercantile Basketball

One of the major basket-ball promoters in Sri Lanka, Delmege Forsyth and company will once again sponsor the Mercantile Services League Basketball tournament for the forth consecutive year from January 9 to February 17.
The 29 men’s teams have already confirmed their participation and will play in four divisions. Four teams will fight for the women’s championship.
Tournament favorites are defending champions Delmege who are grouped in the A division along with Nations Trust Bank. Seylan Bank, Sampath Bank, and Dialog Telecom. A close tight is expected in this group.
Sponsors Delmege have been promoting basketball for the past two decades and they were the national sponsors of basketball in the mid 90’s.
The group has provided employment to a number of talented basketball players. They have in their ranks three national players, Roshan Gunasekara, Prageeth Pushpakumara and Roshan Randima.
Group director of Delmege Forsyth Shamil Mendis said: “The standard of basketball in Sri Lanka is improving step by step and we need to take this sport to a higher standard”.
The men’s tournament first round will be played in a league and the second round will start from the semifinals.
The final of the “A” division men’s and women’s segments in scheduled to be played on February 17.

Delmege Staff Talent Night
19th October, 2005
Staff of the Delmege Group came together for a fun filled evening of dance, music and fellowship at the Delmege staff talent night held on 19th October 2005.
The participants showed great enthusiasm with their practicing late in to the night, getting special costumes made and even getting professional help for their acts!
There were nineteen acts during the night with a dance act being adjudged the winner. The panel of Judges comprised Mr.Harpo Gunaratne, Mr. Iraj Weerarathna and Mrs. M.C.V Mendis.
The night truly showed the creativity, passion and commitment of our staff and helped motivate them further. |
