The Chairman’s Trophy, the Delmege Staff Talent Night & the Sports Day (featured below) are some of the exciting events recently enjoyed by our staff.

Chairman’s Trophy 2010 The Delmege Group of Companies recently held an Awards Ceremony for the 5th consecutive year, to recognize outstanding contributions, by employees, to the dynamic growth and success of the Group during the past year. The most coveted award of the night, the Chairman’s Trophy, was won by Mr. R. Padmabandu Sumanasena of Delmege Forsyth & Co. Ltd. The Chairman’s Trophy winner is judged on five demanding criteria, including: outstanding performance and customer service; exceptional leadership; exceptional levels of new business development or development of new ideas and concepts; outstanding service excellence; and last, but certainly not least, personal dedication and commitment to the Group and Company. The judge’s panel also gave Category Awards to those who performed the best in the aforementioned criteria. Awards were also given out in appreciation of long-service. These Long Service awards were conferred upon 12 staff members who had served their Delmege Group Company for 15 years. Three employees who had a record of over 25 years of service, were also recipients of long service awards. On a night focused on appreciating in-house talent, it was fitting that the evening’s spectacular entertainment featured the artistic skills of the staff of the Delmege Group. Fourteen vocal and dance items, including 2 hilarious skits, produced on their own initiative, were an absolute hit both with the audience, comprising the entire staff, and the Directors of the Group. As the Delmege Group continues to scale new heights of corporate success, it is the star power of employees such as these and the evening’s award winners who will power it to further success in the future.   Delmege Inter Company six a side Cricket Tournament Delmege Group Sports Club organized a friendly six a side, softball cricket tournament. Promoting fun and excitement the mini six a side cricket world cup was held on Saturday 25, September 2010 at the Oval Grounds, P. Sara Stadium, Lesley Ranagala Mawatha Colombo 8. 23 teams representing the subsidiaries of Delmege Group gathered sharp at 8.30am With tosses going up and the grounds been taken over by teams either batting, fielding or bowling amidst such deafening spectators cheering their respective teams. The event was livened up with DJ Music, Papare Band, food Stalls etc. “Def Leopards (Delmege Marketing), Team Sanju (Wharf / Stores department), DDPL Dynamics (Delmege Distributors) and Delair Travels were battling to get into the finals, the game was intensified by this stage. Continuous beats of PAPARE tantalized the ear buds creating an atmosphere of a true big match. DDPL Dynamics and Team Sanju battled it out for the finals and DDPL Dynamics emerged as champions.   Delmege Group employees proved they are as versatile on the field as they are at their jobs when they engaged in friendly but highly competitive six a side, softball cricket tournament.

For the 4th consecutive year the Delmege Group felicitated their staff members at a well attended awards ceremony, held recently, where both long service staff members as well as outstanding performers were recognized. The winner of the 2009 Chairman’s Trophy award is Mr. Kithsiri Hiyarapitiya of Delmege Distributors (Pvt) Ltd.

Delmege Group rewards performance excellence across different sectors - 2007

The management and staff of the Delmege Group of Companies recently held their annual awards ceremony – The Chairman’s Trophy 2007 – to reward the tremendous contributions made by the group’s employees during the past financial year. This trophy is highly coveted within the Delmege Group, and was awarded to Mr. Anton Paul this year, in recognition of the excellence in leadership provided to his team at Delmege Distributors. Held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, the awards night focused on recognising the achievements across 5 areas, believed to be critical to the success of the group, including customer service, leadership and innovation.

The winner of the prestigious honour, Mr. Anton Paul said that being awarded the Chairman’s trophy shows that the efforts of the entire team at Delmege Distributors have been recognised. He added, “The Company has worked exceptionally hard this year, and I am proud of the way we came together in our common goal of expanding the product range and quality of service we provide to our customers”.

Other features of the night included the Category Awards, presented to a select few employees in recognition of their achievements during the year. An award was presented to Mr. Soekaro Ousmand for his outstanding Performance at Delmege Forsyth Tours (Pvt.) Ltd. – the General Sales Agency for Qatar Cargo, while the award for New Business Development went to Mr. Samira Kulathunga of Delmege Interior Décor. Mr. Roshan Perera of Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Exports) was also recognized for his efforts, with the award for Innovation.

Explaining the concepts behind the awards night, the chairman for the group, Mr. F. G. N. Mendis said that the past year was highly successful, financially, for the various companies under the Delmege Forsyth banner. He continued, “As such, I truly believe that it is vital to keep our team members motivated, and to constantly reaffirm our appreciation of their hard work and dedication to the Group.”

Delmege recognizes long servers and outstanding performers - 2008
The Delmege Group felicitated their staff members at a glittering awards ceremony held recently where both long service staff members as well as outstanding performers were recognized. The highlight of the evening of course was the awarding of the Chairman’s Trophy which was held for the 3rd consecutive year and was won by Mr. Sampath Wijesekera of Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Exports) Ltd. Long service awards in two categories, over 15 years and over 25 years too were presented, with 57 staff members qualifying for the 15 year service awards and 6 qualifying for the 25 year service awards.
Further staff motivation came in the way of the Delmege Challenge Competition which is held at the beginning of every year where staff members are encouraged to send in their proposals which are beneficial to the Group. Judging is based on the practical implementation of the proposals, as well as the benefit derived to the Group in the event of the said proposal being implemented. This year’s Delmege Challenge Competition winners were Mr. Niroshan Fernando of Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Exports) Ltd. and Mr. Lalith Wickramasinghe of Delmege Distributors (Pvt) Ltd.
The evening’s entertainment once again was yet another display of the staff of the Delmege Group’s dedication and commitment to their workplace with a host of talented staff members who were drawn from the entire Group and belonging to all ranks, coming together in a show of talent that was indeed staggering.

The foundation and success of any organization lies with it’s people and the Delmege Group has always recognized and rewarded it’s staff members who are the cornerstone of our success” said Chairman of the Delmege Group, Mr. F.G.N. Mendis.

Talent Night – 2007

“Breaking free…to the unconventional” was the theme of the Delmege Staff Talent Night held on 24th August, 2007.

The Talent Night is an event held annually by Delmege in order to nurture the creativity and artistic talents of its employees. The event is organized as a series of skits in the categories of singing, dance & drama with a winner & runner-up being chosen in each category. An external panel of judges is invited to decide on the winners. Even those who do not perform, are given an opportunity to showcase their talents by being a part of the “décor team”, by helping with the costumes and stage set-up or by being the compere for the evening.

This year’s Talent Night saw unprecedented participation with great enthusiasm being shown by everyone who took part. We were indeed privileged to have Mrs. Nayana Karunaratne (Salon Nayana), Mr. Romesh Kaluwitharana and Mr. Sohan Weerasinghe (Sohan & the Experiments) as our judges this year. The acts comprised of soul searching dramas, fun dances set to captivating music, a beautiful rendition of “You raise me up” along with other songs as well as a “Miss World” contest with male contestants dressed up in beach attire … resulting in the judges as well as the audience going in to gales of laughter throughout the evening! An impromptu Baila session by Sohan got everyone out of their seats to sing and dance along with him! The Delmege Staff Talent night will be the talk of the staff for many weeks to come!

Sports Day – 2007

Members of the Delmege staff gathered on a rainy day to witness and take part in the sports day at NCC grounds in Colombo on the 20th October 2007. In the wee hours of the morning, all house captains and participants were actively involved in decorating their respective houses namely Lewis, Forsyth, Delmege & Brown.

The rain and gloomy weather did not dampen the enthusiasm and interest in the events which started off with the 100m & 200 m running events. It went to show that even a thunderstorm couldn’t restrain the energy & high spirits of the Delmege staff!

The team events provided the highlights of the day with games such as Walking on the slices, Passing the coconut, French cricket, Dog and the bone and strongest legs. Towards the afternoon, the heavy rain continued but nothing could stop our day of fun and excitement. The fancy dress parade was one of the much awaited events that captured the audience’s attention. The DJ (Marlon from Delair Travels) provided excellent music throughout the event encouraging all to dance.

Our overall winners and participants are still bursting with excitement.
