Delmege Group rewards performance excellence across different sectors The management and staff of the Delmege Group of Companies recently held their annual awards ceremony – The Chairman’s Trophy 2007 – to reward the tremendous contributions made by the group’s employees during the past financial year.

For the 5th consecutive year, the Delmege Group of Companies will be sponsoring the Delmege Super League Basketball Tournament. Basketball has gained wide popularity especially in the Mercantile Sector with over 35 teams from Banks and corporate entities vying for supremacy.

The history of Delmege Forsyth & Co. Ltd goes back to the year 1850, when Alexander Reid "established as a merchant in Pedlar Street Galle". In 1865, the brothers Delmege, (Sam and Toby) arrived in Ceylon and went into partnership with James Reid who succeeded Alexander, setting up offices in Colombo and Galle. It is recorded that the Delmege brothers had been working as Pilots and Collectors in the Mississippi River Steamer Service and had made a fortune in "running the blockade". On the termination of the American Civil War, they left America and settled in Ceylon.
